Data loss can happen from accidental deletions, app errors, or theme updates gone wrong. Backups protect you.

What to Back Up

Products, customers, orders, themes, settings, blog content, navigation, and discount codes. Losing any of these can disrupt your business significantly.

Backup Apps

Rewind is the most popular Shopify backup app. Automatic daily backups, one-click restore, and e-commerce-specific data handling. Also try Backupland or Exports. Rewind starts around $9/month.

Manual Backups

Export products and customers as CSV from the Shopify admin. Download your theme files. Save these to secure cloud storage. Manual backups are free but require discipline.

How Often to Back Up

Daily backups for active stores. Weekly for stores with less activity. Always back up before making major changes — theme updates, app installs, bulk product edits.

Test Your Backups

A backup you cannot restore is useless. Periodically test restoring data from your backup. Verify that products, customers, and orders are complete and accurate.

Backups are cheap insurance. The cost of losing your store data far exceeds the cost of a backup app.
